Indians hold first off day of spring training

(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – The Cleveland Indians enjoyed their only off day of spring training on Thursday.

Pitchers and catchers reported to camp on Feb. 11 and since then it’s been continuous preparations for the 2014 season. After Thursday, the Tribe will not get another day off until March 30, the day before they open up the 2014 season in Oakland against the Athletics for a three-game series.

So far this spring the Indians have played well posting a record of 15-5-2 in Cactus League exhibition play.

Despite the off day on Thursday, new Tribe closer John Axford pitched one inning in a minor league game at the club’s player development complex, while Trevor Bauer pitched in a Triple-A contest in Phoenix against the A’s. Ryan Raburn also appeared in the minor league game at the complex as he’s recovering from a knee injury.

The Indians continue their Cactus League exhibition schedule on Friday in Scottsdale when they visit the Colorado Rockies.
