Indians make cuts, reduce roster by 12 players

(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – The Cleveland Indians are preparing their club for the upcoming 2014 season and that continued on Wednesday as the Tribe trimmed their Major League spring training roster.

The Indians optioned RHP Austin Adams, LHP TJ House, INF Jesus Aguilar, INF Jose Ramirez and OF Carlos Moncrief to Triple-A Columbus. Meanwhile, the club re-assigned INF Francisco Lindor, C Jake Lowery, OF Tyler Naquin, C Roberto Perez, INF Joey Wendle and C Tony Wolters to Minor League camp.

The Tribe also optioned INF Erik Gonzalez to Single-A Columbus.

Wednesday’s roster reduction was the first of spring camp and it brought the total number of players in Major League camp to 53.

Indians manager Terry Francona made it a point to tell the media on Wednesday that the reductions should not be perceived as “roster cuts”, but an opportunity for them to begin their preparations for the Minor League season.
