Indians slated for first official full squad workout Monday

(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – Everyone has arrived and now it’s really time for baseball.

The Cleveland Indians will hold their first full squad workout on Monday morning at the club’s player development complex.

Position players completed their physicals on Sunday, just one day after reporting. Pitchers and catchers for the Tribe reported to spring camp on Tuesday and followed a similar schedule going through one-on-one meetings with manager Terry Francona and general manager Chris Antonetti following their physicals.

Francona typically speaks to the club on the first “official” full squad workout day. After a morning stretch around 9:30 am, camp will officially open for the entire club.

The Indians will practice right up until Wed. Feb. 26, the date of their first Cactus League game when they play the Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark. First pitch for that game is set for 3:05 pm ET and can be heard on Newsradio WTAM 1100. Tom Hamilton and Jim Rosenhaus will provide all of the play-by-play action.

Once spring exhibition games begin, the Tribe will still hold early morning workouts and batting practice sessions prior to Cactus League play.

Up until this point there have been no major injury issues for the Indians.

The Indians have 64 players in camp this spring and are stressing depth as a major key. Earlier in the week Francona mentioned to the assembled media that out of the 63 players in camp a year ago, 49 of them played at the big league level. Only two of those 49 players appeared for others clubs.
