(Cleveland) - After years of political debate and construction, the one million square foot Cleveland Convention Center is ready to go.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Cleveland Convention Center will be opened to the general public for a “Celebrate the Center: Community Open House and Celebration.”

It will include interactive displays, team mascot and alumni appearances, and autograph sessions from the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The United States Coast Guard, the 2013 National Senior Summer Games, Positively Cleveland, and the City of Cleveland will also provide informational displays along with live music provided by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The first 1,000 attendees ages 16 and over will receive a commemorative lunch tote bag. The first 1,000 children will receive a commemorative Convention Center plastic telescope.

In the adjacent Global Center for Health Innovation (formerly known as the Medical Mart), the Northeast Ohio Healthcare Workforce Collaborative will host nearly 40 educational, government, and healthcare organizations at the “Explore the World of Health Careers” in the Global Center junior ballroom to showcase the rich diversity of healthcare occupations and the educational programs which lead to these careers.

The Cleveland Convention Center will host its first event, the 2013 National Senior Summer Games, beginning July 19.

The Global Center is scheduled to open in October, hosting the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit October 14-16.
