A Cleveland K9 officer euthanized

(Cleveland) - The Cleveland Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its' K9 officers.  13 Year old 'Jet' was euthanized Monday after suffering from a degenerative problem in his lower spine for years.

The black German Sheppard served as a specially trained narcotics officer from 2002 up until his unfortunate passing Monday.  His handler, CPD Officer Tony Colon says Jet was more than just a police officer.

Officer Colon says Jet was part of his family.  Jet often went on drug raids and inspected packages that came via U.S. Mail.

Officer Colon says his partner was active up until the very end.  He says Jet tried chasing the neighbor's cat just hours before he was euthanized.
