(Cleveland) - School uniforms are gaining popularity among schools in Ohio.

In fact, Cleveland has the second highest rate of schools with uniform policies in the nation at 85%, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

"I don't think that every school in Ohio or across the nation is jumping to school uniforms, but we certainly have a substantial number that are doing it today that were not doing it in the past," says school security expert Ken Trump.

Trump says it can be a security measure because it limits gang identifiers and help staff identify non-students who might be trespassing in the building.

"I've never heard a school administrator whose school went to school uniforms say that they created more problems. To the contrary. It's usually that it makes for much more orderly discipline and better behaved student population," Trump said.

Trump also says uniforms can help cut down on students trying to make fashion statements and put the focus back on learning. At first Trump says many parents and students are opposed to uniforms.

"It's just a win-win for parents and educators and eventually kids come around with it as well," he said.
