(Cleveland) - The 500-million dollar redevelopment of the east bank of the Flats is in full swing.
Ground was broken in January on phase-2 of the project which will include a new 1,200 foot boardwalk along the Cuyahoga River, a number of restaraunts along the boardwalk, and 243 brand new apartments which will sit atop additional restaraunts and entertainment venues.
Adam Fishman with the 'Flats East Development Company' says they hope to open the retail portion of phase-2 in June, 2015 to catch a good portion of the Summer season.
Fishman says downtown's growth and success is dependent upon the central business district's contiguous location to where increased numbers of people live and play on or near the banks of the Cuyahoga River.
Fishman says many young professionals have a desire to live and work in the downtown area which he says was clearly not the case ten or fifteen years ago.
