-Second-year offensive lineman Ryan Miller suffered a concussion early in practice while the team was in the midst of one on one drills. Practice came to an immediate halt as Miller was knocked out after a helmet to helmet blow in a blocking drill.
Here are Coach Chudzinski’s thoughts on Miller’s injury “He was injured early in practice with a head injury during drills. He was taken to the hospital. Our medical staff treated him on the field and was able to transport him to the hospital. At this time, Ryan is doing well.
He is responsive and sounds like things are better at this point. We will continue to give you updates on that. I plan on visiting Ryan tonight and seeing how he is doing.”
-The team then huddled around Miller and said a prayer. It was a scary moment as the music inside the Fieldhouse stopped and the emotion of the day changed drastically. The team found out about 25 minutes later that Miller was alert. Before being carted off Miller was talking to doctors and moving his extremities.
Here are Chudzinski’s thoughts on getting the team together after the injury, “We got together. We said a prayer, said we would keep Ryan in our thoughts and I would give them updates as we got them. We needed to get back to work at that point and focus back on practice.”
-Saturday was supposed to be the team’s first day in pads, but because of the rain the team was inside and only wore shoulder pads. The team will now go in pads on Sunday. -Injury wise Phil Taylor returned to do individual work but still no team work. Tight end Kellen Davis was in the same situation as he did work individually.
-Offensive lineman O’Neil Cousins who left practice early on Friday will most likely be out a few weeks as he has a sprained ankle.
