Carrera DFA, Bourn set for rehab assignment

(CLEVELAND) – The Cleveland Indians designated outfielder Ezequiel Carrera for assignment just three days after picking him up off of waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Carrera, 25, appeared in two games for the Indians during his latest stint. The speedy outfielder started on Saturday afternoon for the Tribe recording two hits and scoring a run and also started on Friday night when he delivered a crucial sacrifice-bunt during the Indians 7-6 comeback victory over the Minnesota Twins.

The Indians called up left-hander Scott Barnes from Triple-A Columbus to fill Carrera’s spot on the 25-man roster.

Meanwhile, the club announced that center fielder Michael Bourn will begin his Minor League rehab assignment on Monday at Triple-A Columbus when the Clippers take on Charlotte at Huntington Park. Bourn is still recovering from an injury he sustained to his right index finger that required stitches after sliding into first base. The thought is that Bourn will need a couple of games in the minors before returning to the Indians.

Heading into Sunday’s series finale with the Twins at Progressive Field the Indians had won six-straight games; their longest winning streak in two years.
